AI Music Controversy + The Power of Music in Ads!

The Rareform Rundown #46
Hello Friends,
Nathan here! A big thank you to everyone who reached out about the music search last week—I’m excited to dive into those submissions later next week. It’s been a whirlwind of projects over the past few days, and now I’m finally taking a much-needed holiday break. After grinding through the last six weeks (with only a day or two off), it feels good to hit pause for a moment. So after clicking send on this email, I’m tuning out for the weekend and if you have been taking on a full plate in this whole journey called life, I encourage you to take some time to smell the roses also.
This week, I’m sharing:
Some exciting new projects I’ve had the honor of contributing to.
The controversy surrounding Suno AI’s CEO and their claim that people “don’t like making music.”
Insights into the incredible power of music in advertising.
Let’s get it!

PROJECTS
Hyped to share that my track Downtown Swagger was featured in the trailer for this Chinese film Fake Dad—Cool to see it all come together! Also excited to have my track Ambush featured in Season 1 of Face Off: Inside the NHL. Both of these songs are unreleased so as an offering of some exclusive content, here is a link to stream them if you’d like! Please don’t rip them or I’ll hold off of sharing more unreleased music in the future.

The CEO of Suno appeared on The Twenty Minute VC podcast and shared some thoughts that got people talking. For a bit of context, Suno is an AI platform geared toward music creation. During the conversation, he pointed out that many people find making music challenging due to the time and effort needed to learn instruments or production tools. Platforms like Suno aim to lower that barrier.
This naturally opens up questions about what these changes mean for the future of music, things like creativity, ownership, and the value of mastering the craft. With every new tool, there’s always a balance to strike between innovation and honoring the roots of the art form. What are your thoughts?
Speaking of AI, here’s an AI newsletter I’ve been following, maybe you’ll enjoy it too.

You ever notice how music can hit you in a way nothing else can? In advertising, it’s not just there to fill the silence, it’s what makes a message stick! I find it funny when I hear folks so “oh you make the background music?” when music is really the emotional spinal column of any type of content.
A song can take you back to a memory or completely change your mood in seconds. It’s wild how much of an impact the right track can have.
In ads, music pulls a lot of weight. It tells the story, brings up emotions, and makes things memorable. When brands get it right, it’s not just about promoting something, it’s about creating a moment people don’t forget.
Here’s a little blog from our team sharing some more details.

That’s it for this week! I appreciate you!
