ARTE Promo, Fatigue and Music, Trailer Tension Insight

The Rareform Rundown #79

Hello Friends,

Nathan here. It’s been a busy stretch, but I’ve got some things on the radar worth sharing. We’ve got some new projects to share this week, plus we came across some interesting research on how music might help fight driver fatigue, and a creative note on harmonic ambiguity that keeps the music unresolved so the audience stays on edge.

Let’s get right to it!

New projects + music we are looking for

PROJECTS

Excited to share that my track Spellbound landed into this spot for Arte Promo! Always love when a track from the archive finds its place.

This track was made back in 2022, and it’s cool to see it synced up with something fresh and visually creative.

And a little side note, Spellbound is the original instrumental I later turned into a cinematic cover of Alicia Keys’ Fallin’. If you’d like to check that version out, it’s on Spotify:
Fallin’

Our track Make It Loud by Glenwood and Kidarah was featured in the campaign for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder episode 209! Big thanks to our partners at Disney for having us on this one.

We are currently looking for a male singer/rapper who kills it in this K-Pop style vibe. If you are someone you know does, please send a reply to this thread with some examples!

Refs:

Tired driving causes a lot of accidents, and the tricky part is most people don’t notice how out of it they are until their focus is already gone. Researchers have been looking into ways to help, and one of the things they’ve found is that music can make a real difference. It makes sense because music already affects how we feel and act in so many ways. The right song can give you a little boost of energy, help you focus, or just keep you from zoning out on a long stretch of road.

It’s not a magic fix, but it’s interesting to see how music keeps showing up in places you wouldn’t expect, even behind the wheel!

One of the tricks composers use to build tension in trailers is harmonic ambiguity. Instead of giving the listener a clear “home” key, the harmony feels unsettled, and that keeps people on edge. The music doesn’t quite resolve, so the audience is left leaning in, waiting for the release which is exactly the kind of suspense a trailer needs.

Our team wrote more about this approach and how it shows up in cinematic music, if you’re curious, you can check out the full piece on our blog!

That’s it for this week! I appreciate y’all!
