Call of Duty Black Ops 7, Rise in Music Scams, and More

The Rareform Rundown #106

Hello Friends,

Nathan here. Wherever you’re at this week, hope things are steady. Wanted to share something we came across this week that felt worth paying attention to. There’s been a rise in scams and cyber activity in the music space, enough for the FBI to step in with a warning. It’s affecting both professionals and fans, and a lot of it follows familiar patterns, fake opportunities, stolen content, things that can slip through if you’re not looking closely. Also came across this simple setup that turns sound into a line of moving flames, showing how audio actually behaves in real time. One of those things that makes what we work with every day feel a bit more real once you see it.

Two very different sides of the same world, but both worth knowing about.

Let’s gooooooooo!

New projects + music we are looking for

PROJECTS

Excited to share that Beethoven’s 9th, a remix I worked on with Darby Phillips, was featured into the Fox College Hoops Tip-Off campaign. This remix is part of the album BSM045 Trap Orchestra!

Instagram Reel

Hyped to share that my track Ambush was featured in the Season 03 Multiplayer Maps spot for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Always cool hearing where these tracks end up. Huge thanks to the team at Activision for bringing us in on this one!

There’s been a noticeable shift happening behind the scenes in the music world, and it’s not the kind anyone’s excited about. The FBI recently issued a warning after seeing a steady rise in scams and cyber activity targeting both industry professionals and everyday fans. What stands out isn’t just the volume, but how consistent these tactics have become, from fake business opportunities to stolen intellectual property showing up in places it shouldn’t.

A lot of this data comes directly from complaints filed through the Internet Crime Complaint Center, along with ongoing investigations that continue to uncover similar patterns. It’s not random, it’s organized, and it’s affecting people at every level of the industry.

With more than $12 million in reported losses, this is starting to hit in a real way. Beyond the financial side, there’s also the added risk of creative work being compromised, which brings a whole different layer of concern for artists, producers, and anyone working in this space.

If you’re working in music or even just connected to it as a fan, this is something worth being aware of. There are clear trends forming, and understanding how these schemes operate is a big part of avoiding them.

Some things in audio are easy to hear but hard to actually see. Sound waves are one of those. We talk about pressure, movement, frequency, but most of it lives in theory unless you’re looking at a screen or meters. That’s what makes this next concept interesting, it takes something invisible and puts it right in front of you in a way that’s hard to ignore.

There’s a setup that turns sound into a row of moving flames, where what you’re hearing directly shapes what you’re seeing. It’s simple at a glance, but once it’s running, it gives a real-time look at how sound actually behaves as it travels through space.

Instead of thinking about waveforms or graphs, you’re watching pressure changes play out physically. It’s a different way to understand something we work with every day, especially if you’re dealing with sound design, mixing, or anything tied to how audio moves and reacts.

Appreciate y’all!
