The Creative Safari #15

Hey Friends,

It’s been a fun week here with all sorts of new stuff brewing! I was finally able to share the TV spot for Monkey Man (see below) that featured my track War Drums. I also had a track with my buddy Darby that locked in the intro for a film trailer for a Chinese production titled Into The Mortal World (also see below).

This past week, amidst my usual projects, I've received an increasing number of messages from composers eager to break into trailer music, seeking my insights on how to get started. Many ask for Zoom calls, which I tend to avoid. Why? Because they take up large amounts of time. I actually started this newsletter to consolidate questions that I get asked so that I can repurpose the answers for others.

Deciding a path in life that you want to go on takes doing the research and being committed. A 30 minute call with a stranger couldn’t possibly cover the scope of what it really takes. It’s like deciding to have a child, it’s a big decision and you are the one who is going to have to do the work. Since a good portion of our community consists of aspiring trailer composers, I figured we can start the conversation here and continue it in future discussions!

Let's get real for a moment though. I also get asked how I manage to accomplish so much, and the answer is simple: I work relentlessly and cut out anything that wastes my time—hence avoiding Zoom calls. I'm being brutally honest because there's no single secret that changed everything for me. The real "secret" is to put in the work and not wait for permission.

For all the amazing people who've reached out in DMs asking this question, here's a starting point. Let's dive into some details below and keep this conversation going. 😊

This Week’s Discussion

Into the Mortal World Trailer:

Monkey Man TV Spot & Quick Write Up:

New Rareform Audio Blog!

Tool of the Week: DistroKid

I did a quick write up on DistroKid as it’s helped simplify the music distribution process and is extremely affordable. Also, my favorite thing about it is when collaborating with other artists it’s easy to link the track to both of your accounts!

Big Thanks!

I just wanted to say big thanks to everyone who’s been along with me on this journey, my goal is to not sugar coat things and be real with you all!

Let’s get it
