The Creative Safari #5

Hello Friends,
Nathan here with your weekly dispatch from the creative journey. It’s been a great week working on multiple projects as usual, some new music placements that I can’t wait to announce, multiple new trailers featuring our sound design, and the release of a new trailer music album through Black Sheep Music, our trailer music publishing company. If you are curious to hear the electronic “Trent Reznor” inspired trailer music we just dropped, you can listen here. It also features a new rebranded style of album artwork that I made. As much as I love music, I love nerding out on all sorts of different creative projects, including art/video although I always spend about 3 times longer on them than I originally planned haha.
Here’s the artwork too:

For this week’s discussion I wanted to bring you all up to speed with my musical Journey thus far. “How did you get into music & sync” was one of the most asked questions in my inbox so I thought I’d tackle it now to get everyone up to speed (at least briefly as I could go on for a lifetime) so there is context for future discussions down the road!

What is “One-Stop” Music Licensing?
This may be a common term for some and may not be relevant at all to others as we have an eclectic community here. However if you are a video editor, producer or just genuinely curious, our team member Harmony discusses the concept of one-stop music licensing and the simplicity of Rareform’s music licensing process!
Quote of the week: “The best art divides the audience. If everyone likes it, you probably haven't gone far enough”
Tool of the Week
Songtrust
If you make music and have acquired streams, make sure you get the publishing royalties form those streams. Labels along with many distributors only pay out for the master royalties. Using a publishing admin like Songtrust can collect those songwriter royalties for you! If you hit the link above you’ll get $10 off of your one time sign up fee too!
Productivity Hack of the Week
Delete apps (even if only temporarily). This might sound funny however if you are having trouble finding time in the day, check out how much time you may be on your phone. I have been deleting social media apps from my phone lately and simply re-downloading and checking them from time to time. This has been insightful because:
I realized how often I go to check my phone even when I have a 30 second moment of free time.
I realized how easily time can take ahold once I’m on social media and before I know it 20, 30, 40 minutes has gone by and it becomes hard to pull myself away.
I realized how much harder it is to get on to my other tasks for the day when I have my phone there.
After a few days without the apps, I feel like my attention span resets and I’m way more focused and had very minimal screen time compared to doomscrolling. Plus the urge to check social media goes away
Deleting the app and redownloading a few days later takes less than a minute to do however it can potentially saves hours of time.
That’s a wrap
As always, I hope all is well and that you have a great weekend!
