Detecting AI Music + Why Remixes Matter

The Rareform Rundown #81

Hello Friends,

Nathan here. Things have been moving quickly and I wanted to share what’s been on our radar lately. We’ve got a couple of projects we’ve been part of to share this week, along with a look at a new audio fingerprinting system built to catch copyright issues even in tracks made with AI, we also put together an insight on remix culture and how reimagined tracks keep shaping music and film.

Let’s get right to it!

New projects + music we are looking for

PROJECTS

Always a fun surprise when those late confirms roll in! Our track The Nobles by Dimitris Polychroniadis and Adrian Nicholas Valdez made it into this spot for Alarum. Big thanks to our partners at Lionsgate for having us on this one!

Excited to share that Eye for an Eye, a track that I made with Darby Phillips was featured again in this spot for Oh, Hi! Thanks to our friends at LIVEBAD for bringing us along for the ride once again!

Our team wrote a blog about a new audio fingerprinting system built to detect copyright infringement in music, including tracks made with AI. It’s being called the first of its kind and shows up right as AI music tools are raising more questions across the industry.

It’s a step toward protecting artists and rights holders, while also adding to the bigger conversation about how AI fits into the future of music.

Remixes have always fascinated me because they’re more than just a tweak to an old song. They take something familiar and turn it into something new, sometimes in ways you don’t expect. What started years ago as DJs stretching tracks out for the dance floor has grown into a huge part of how music moves today.

Remixes can give a song a second life, introduce it to a new audience, or even change the way we think about a genre. They’ve also found their way into film and TV, where a reimagined track can add a completely different mood to a scene. It’s this mix of creativity and reinvention that keeps remix culture alive and makes it such an important piece of the music world.

If you’re curious, we dig into more of this in the full blog.

Until next week, appreciate you being here!

-Nathan
