Fake Artist Projects, Song Selection for a Scene + More

The Rareform Rundown #70
Hello Friends,
Nathan here, this week I share some new projects, the discovery on a fake artist project, along with the selection process of finding the perfect cue for a scene.
Let’s get right to it!
Also, I’m in Madrid for a little bit, if you happen to be as well drop me a line!

PROJECTS
Excited to share that our track Find Her by Adrian Hogan made it into this spot for the Chinese TV series Sijin.
Cool to get the late confirmation that our sound design landed in the Sinners campaign!

New month, new batch of tracks in the Rareform On Rotation playlist on Spotify.
We’ve got some fresh finds, some repeat plays, and a few that just hit right in the middle of a long work day. If you’re looking for something to tap into while you get stuff done, give it a spin.

So this band called The Velvet Sundown started popping up all over Spotify in early July. Out of nowhere, they had a couple albums out, a million monthly listeners, and a third record dropping soon. It felt like they came up fast. But then people on Reddit started asking questions. Their songs were showing up in a bunch of playlists, and when folks tried to look them up, there wasn’t much to find. The band’s photos looked a little too perfect, and the whole thing started to feel a little... off. That’s when things unraveled. Turns out, The Velvet Sundown wasn’t a real band. No actual members, no real sessions. Just a project powered by AI, with humans steering the creative direction behind the scenes.

For visual creators, finding the right track for a scene isn’t always straightforward. It’s less about what sounds cool and more about what actually fits. The right cue can shift the whole tone pull more emotion, highlight a key moment, or just help the story land a little harder.
It usually takes a few tries, a bit of back and forth, and a good gut check. Here are a few things to keep in mind while you’re dialing it in.

That’s it for this week!
