Major League Baseball, Building Epic Trailers, and More

The Rareform Rundown #97
Hello Friends,
Nathan here. Appreciate you taking a moment to read this. Things have been a little full lately, but I wanted to catch you up on what’s been going on over here. I’m sharing a research piece on how music influences driving behavior, a breakdown of how epic trailers are built and how music often follows a three-act structure, and a quick 2025 year-in-review across Rareform Audio and Black Sheep Music.
Let’s goooo!

So hyped to hear our remix of Bach’s Violin Concerto, a remix I collaborated with Haukur Karlsson, featured in this spot for Major League Baseball!

Listening to music while driving feels second nature at this point. For most of us, it is right up there with buckling a seatbelt or adjusting the mirrors. Whether it is a quick commute or a long road trip, music often helps us stay awake, relax a bit, or simply make the drive feel shorter. But over the years, researchers have started looking more closely at how music actually affects the way we drive. And it turns out the relationship is a little more nuanced than you might expect.
Most of these studies use driving simulators, where everything stays the same except the music. This allows researchers to track things like speed, braking, reaction time, and focus without outside variables getting in the way. When you zoom out and look at multiple studies together, some interesting patterns start to emerge.
If you have ever wondered whether your playlist is helping or hurting your driving, this is worth a closer look. Read more below.

When you hear an epic movie trailer, there is usually a lot more happening than just big drums and soaring strings. Trailer music is written with intention, built to support the story unfolding on screen. In many ways, it follows the same arc as the films themselves. Most trailer music leans on a simple three-act structure: a setup, a moment of tension, and a final payoff. It is a familiar framework, but it works. It helps trailers feel cinematic, builds anticipation, and keeps audiences engaged from start to finish.

As we kick off 2026, we wanted to take a moment to look back on 2025. It was a year of steady creative work and some really solid collaborations across Rareform Audio and Black Sheep Music. Throughout the year, we had the chance to contribute music and sound design across film, television, and advertising, supporting a wide range of projects and creative teams along the way. Thank you to everyone who worked with us in 2025. We’re grateful for the collaboration and trust, and in 2026, we’re excited to keep creating music that truly enhances the stories and projects we work on!

That’s it for now. Thanks for following along. I appreciate y’all!
