Marty Supreme + Reference Tracks in Mixing

The Rareform Rundown #90
Hello Friends,
Nathan here. Hope all is well in your world. Been locked in over here and have a few things lined up to share this week, including a major music piracy case that pulled the topic back into focus. And a quick look at how I use reference tracks in the mix. They’re helpful when things start drifting, as long as they don’t override your own direction.
Let’s get into it!

New projects + music we are looking for
PROJECTS
Hyped to share that the remix I did with Darby Phillips of A$AP Ferg’s New Level landed in this spot for Marty Supreme. This one was a fun ride to make and cool to see it find a home!
Another remix I worked on with Darby Phillips found a home, this time in the trailer for Run! Had a solid time putting our take on New Order’s Blue Monday together, and it’s cool to see this one land.

Sharing a new write-up that digs into a major music piracy case that pushed the topic back into the spotlight. It breaks down the allegations, the billion-dollar ruling, and how questions about copyright enforcement are landing on internet providers. The post looks at what all of this means for the music world overall. Full piece is up.

Here’s a quick piece on how I approach reference tracks in the mixing process. They can be a helpful checkpoint when a mix starts drifting, but they only work if you keep your own style at the center. The blog breaks down how I use them, what to watch for, and why originality still drives the final call.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for tagging along for the ride!
