MTV Music Channels Sign Off + How to Land More Sync Placements

The Rareform Rundown #83
Hello Friends,
Hope all’s good in your world! Got a few things to share this week including a couple of projects we were part of, a news about MTV ending its dedicated music channels, and some thoughts on how to improve your chances of landing more sync placements.
Let’s gooooooo!

New projects + music we are looking for
PROJECTS
Hyped to share that my track Insider Threat, written together with Darby Phillips, landed in the trailer for The Return of the Lame Hero!
Hyped to be part of the One Battle After Another campaign, with our sound design featured! Appreciate the team at Warner Bros. for bringing us in on this project.

It’s wild to think about how much the way we experience music has changed. MTV’s recent move just confirms what’s been happening for years, music lives online now. People aren’t waiting around for the next countdown when everything’s just a click away on YouTube, TikTok, or Spotify.
These days, songs blow up through short clips, and new music videos drop straight to the internet where fans can find them instantly. The whole experience has shifted from waiting and watching to searching and sharing, and honestly, it feels like the natural next step for how we connect with music.

Sync licensing has gotten pretty competitive lately, and it’s not just about writing a great “rock” or “pop” track anymore. Music supervisors aren’t searching by genre, they’re looking for songs that fit a mood, a story, or a certain feeling on screen. So if you’re an artist trying to land placements, it helps to think about how your music can work across different moments and emotions. Building a catalog that’s flexible and ready for sync can make all the difference.
