NEON Collaboration, Sound Design in Video Games + AI Update

The Rareform Rundown #57
Hello Friends,
This week, we’re diving into the evolving intersection of AI and music, the power of sound design in gaming. From the industry’s pushback against deepfake tracks to how a single sound cue can shift the entire feel of a video game, it’s been a big one for audio. Plus — we’ve got some really exciting things to announce specifically for composers and music producers in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Let’s dive in!

New projects + music we are looking for
PROJECTS
Super cool to hear Fuel and Fire, a track Darby Phillips and I made, featured in the campaign for Hell Of A Summer! Big thanks to our friend at NEON! We will drop a few more spots from this one soon!
Hyped to share that our sound design elements were featured in the campaign for The Woman in the Yard! Huge thanks to our partners at Universal!
SYNC SEARCH
Big ups to everyone who reached out about the reality cues for RPM last week, I have to say it’s going to take me some time to get back to everyone. We got a hige wave of interest and I’m having to manage this individually at the moment so please be patient with me!

Just gave our Rareform On Rotation playlist on Spotify a fresh update with some tracks we’re into right now! If you’re curious what’s been in the mix lately, give it a listen. We update it every month.

In this blog, out team wanted to take a quick look at how the music world is dealing with the wave of AI-generated content, and the mess it’s starting to make.
From deepfake tracks showing up online to AI models being trained on music without permission, the industry’s been trying to push back. Sony Music alone has flagged over 75,000 pieces of AI-generated content, including fake songs and videos that sound way too close to the real thing.
Even with tools in place to spot and report this stuff, a lot of it still slips through, especially on platforms like YouTube and Spotify. It’s a growing problem, and the response so far hasn’t exactly caught up.

Audio plays a big role in how we experience games—not just as background noise, but as a way to guide us through the world. Footsteps, distant echoes, even the hum of a nearby machine, they all help make the environment feel real.
And it’s more than just vibe. These sounds give us clues. A floorboard creaks, and now we’re alert. The music cuts out, and suddenly we know something’s about to go down.
Sound design helps tell the story. It builds tension, adds weight, and keeps us connected to what’s happening.
Read the full blog for more thoughts on how sound design shapes the way we play.

That’s it for this week!
