The Rareform Rundown #100

Hello Friends,

Nathan here. This is our 100th Rareform Rundown which is kind of wild to even type that. If you’ve been following along for any of these, I appreciate you being here.

It’s been a packed week. We also quietly hit a big internal goal at Rareform Production Music. We set out to reach 100 albums in 2025 and as of this moment, we are already at 110 live releases. RPM is growing quickly, and the catalog is expanding in a way that keeps creating more opportunities on the licensing side!

With that momentum in mind, I’m diving into two things this week. First, a breakdown of ASCAP’s record setting year and what the latest performance revenue numbers are showing across streaming and licensing. Then I shift gears a bit and talk about creative flow. Not the romanticized version, but the practical side of staying consistent and building momentum without waiting around for inspiration to show up.

Let’s go!!

New projects + music we are looking for

Hyped to finally share this one! The instrumental version of Energy, a track I collaborated on with Aramanni Reign, was featured in this spot for Toyota Motorsports.

In Town for Sessions: Charlie Baker in LA (Feb 27)

Our dear friend Charlie Baker (UK) is coming to Los Angeles on Feb 27 and is looking to link with dope LA writers and producers for collabs. If you’ve got a studio and want to connect, shoot his team and email. Tell them you say the post on the Rareform newsletter and of course, drop a link to your work + socials so they can scope you out.

We hit our 2025 goal!

We set out to release 100 RPM albums for 2025, and we got there. As of now, we’re at 110 albums live.

Rareform Production Music (RPM) was built to bring a more focused, concept driven approach to production music, made for modern media. We’re already seeing cues land in campaigns for Apple Arcade, Hasbro Games, Scotts Miracle-Grow, and more rolling out now. Access or apply to the catalog now! We’re also exploring invite only plans for content creators. If you’re interested, email [email protected] and we’ll add you to the list.

More coming soon. Appreciate you putting the music to work!

ASCAP has reported its strongest financial year to date, setting new records for revenue and royalty distributions in 2025. The growth reflects increases across streaming, radio, live performances, and international markets.

Streaming remained a major contributor to U.S. licensed performance revenue, while international collections also saw gains tied to activity abroad. As in previous years, ASCAP stated that 90 cents of every dollar collected was distributed to its members. The organization also reported that it continues to operate without debt and maintains a 10 percent overhead rate.

For composers, songwriters, and publishers, these figures offer a snapshot of how performance income is trending right now. Read more on our site for a closer look at the numbers and what they signal for the publishing space.

Creativity in music can feel random, like ideas just show up out of nowhere. But most of the time, there is more going on beneath the surface. The way we think, the way we practice, even the way we challenge ourselves all play a role in how often those ideas show up. When you start to understand that creativity is shaped by habits and focus, not just luck, it becomes easier to create on purpose instead of waiting around for inspiration to strike.

That is where flow comes in. Flow is that zone where you lose track of time and everything feels natural, like the next note is already waiting for you. It usually happens when you are pushing yourself just enough. Maybe you are trying a new sound, experimenting with a different tempo, or improvising over chords that are slightly outside your comfort zone. You are focused, but not forcing it. There is structure, but also space to explore. When you can hear immediate results, whether through playback or in the moment, it reinforces that momentum and keeps you locked in.

If you want to go deeper into how to build that kind of creative rhythm into your process, read more on our site for practical ways to create more consistently without overthinking it.

Appreciate you all for being here and following along!
