AI is a hot topic right now, and how it intersects with music is something we're figuring out step by step. From indie game sound design on a budget to the moves UMG is making around AI patents, there's a lot shifting quickly.

So AI is a common topic these days and how the music world handles it is an interesting one we are discovering at each new step of the way.
Universal Music Group is taking a clear step forward in shaping how AI interacts with music. They’ve teamed up with IP asset management firm Liquidax Capital to start developing and filing patents that focus on the growing impact of AI across the music industry.
As part of this move, they’ve launched a new entity called Music IP Holdings, Inc., which will handle licensing for UMG’s AI-related patents. It’s a sign that UMG isn’t just watching the AI space, they’re making long-term moves to stay in control of how tech and music evolve together.

Audio can make or break the feel of a game. It sets the mood, helps guide the player, and pulls you deeper into the world. But for indie developers, getting that sound right isn’t always easy, especially with tight budgets and limited time.
The good news is, great audio doesn’t have to mean expensive gear. There are plenty of affordable DAWs out there that get the job done, plus a growing list of free and low-cost plugins, virtual instruments, and libraries that open up a ton of creative options. Sampling, layering, and smart use of existing tools can go a long way in shaping a solid sonic landscape.
