Star Wars, RPM Launch & Reality TV Composer Search

The Rareform Rundown #56
Hello Friends,
Nathan here. This week’s update is a fun one: we’re celebrating a big milestone, announcing a new venture under the Rareform umbrella, kicking off a composer search for reality TV music, and diving into everything from the science of music enjoyment to why the first 30 seconds of a track really matter.
Let’s get into it.

New projects + music we are looking for
PROJECTS
We are excited to announce that our customized version of Going Westward from our album The Great Frontier by Dmitry Ivashchenko is featured in the trailer for Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld! Big thanks to our friends at Disney for having us on this one!
Also, we’re excited to share that our sound design elements were featured in the campaign for Mickey 17! Huge thanks to our friends at Warnerbros.
SYNC SEARCH + RPM ANNOUNCEMENT
We’ve just soft-launched our new venture: Rareform Production Music — a boutique catalog focused on high-quality, highly-usable music for TTV & broadcast.
To kick things off, we’re looking for composers who can nail those iconic reality TV cues — from melodramatic dramedy (think intense strings underscoring a minor Kardashian meltdown) to quirky comedy (those whimsical, bumbly tracks perfect for awkward moments and kitchen chaos).
If you’ve got experience writing cartoonish orchestral, melodramatic pizzicato, goofy grooves, and/or grooving percussion beds, send us a few examples! We’ll be selecting a handful of new collaborators to join the Rareform Production Music family.
Check out the reference tracks below for the styles we’re looking for.

A new study out of the Max Planck Institute suggests that our ability to enjoy music is, at least in part, written into our DNA. Researchers analyzed data from over 9,000 twins and found that genetics account for about 54% of the variability in how people respond to music.
Interestingly, the genes linked to music enjoyment are distinct from those tied to general pleasure responses, meaning our emotional connection to music may be its own unique trait. This could have big implications for music therapy, education, and even how streaming platforms recommend songs. If music preference has a biological component, future algorithms might go beyond just tracking what we listen to and start predicting what we’ll actually connect with on a deeper level.

The first few seconds of a song or anything, really matter more than we think. They pull you in or they don’t. Whether it’s music, marketing, or storytelling, those opening moments set the tone.
We live in a time where skipping is easy, attention is short, and choices are endless. So start strong, keep the momentum, and make it real. The rest will take care of itself.

That’s it for this week!
