The Rareform Rundown #40

Hello Friends,

Can you believe we’re already at week 40 of the Rareform Rundown? Time is flying! I hope you’re all doing well. It’s been a whirlwind for us lately, with a lot of behind-the-scenes action, including some major initiatives we’ll be announcing in early 2025, as well as actively scouting new talent.

Speaking of talent, I wanted to share a quick update about the creative roles we’ve been recruiting for on LinkedIn—everything from sound designers (we had over 1,400 applicants!) to music producers and composers. The response has been overwhelming in the best way, and I truly appreciate everyone who has shown interest in working with us.

Since we’re a small team, it’s taking time to sort through all the submissions while keeping everything else running smoothly. Please don’t take it personally if you don’t hear from us immediately—we’re doing our best! If you’ve submitted your info, you’re already in our system, which means we can reach out when specific needs arise. Thank you for your patience and excitement. It means a lot to us!

Now, let’s dive into this week’s topics.

First up, we came across an interesting study showing how music can aid recovery after surgery. It’s another reminder of the incredible ways music can impact our lives beyond entertainment.

And with Christmas around the corner, we’ve been digging into the backstories behind some beloved holiday classics. Turns out, not all of them come from happy places. Some of the songs we love most were born out of surprisingly deep or challenging circumstances.

More to come on both topics below—stay tuned!

New projects + music we are looking for

PROJECTS

Excited to share that our Black Sheep Music sound design made it into the Love Hurts campaign! Huge thanks to our friends at Universal Pictures!

My team and I are on the lookout for UK sync artists—rappers and singers from the UK who create music that works well for media placements.

Right now, we’re working on a Netflix project with an urgent need for UK artists. By the time you read this, the delivery window for tracks will likely have passed. However, this is a great opportunity to build a roster of talented UK artists for the next request that comes our way.

A quick note: this isn’t a call for instrumental beats or composers. We’re specifically looking for tracks with sync-friendly lyrics. If that sounds like you, we’d love for you to drop your info into the form below!

Discussions inspired by community questions

For this week’s discussion I wanted to re-share a discussion I have been asked about multiple times this week… Master and Publishing rights. I turned it into a blog to help spread the word as it’s crucial information to know as a music maker.

It turns out music might do more than just set the mood, it could actually help you heal! Scientists reviewed a bunch of studies and found that listening to music after surgery can reduce pain and ease anxiety. Whether it’s through headphones or a speaker, patients who listened to music during recovery reported feeling less discomfort and stress, especially the day after surgery. It’s a simple idea with a real impact, showing once again how powerful music can be!

For many folks, Christmas might be on December 25th, but for most of us in the West, the season starts long before that, especially when it comes to music. Everywhere you go, the air is filled with holiday songs, setting the mood and bringing a little extra cheer. But here’s the thing: some of the most loved Christmas songs have surprisingly deep or even tough stories behind them. They didn’t all come from a place of joy. Let’s explore into the backstories of a few of these classics.

Tools we use

You can check out a bunch of my favorite tools here on my personal blog. From a trail camera I discovered and use as a security for my studio/home while traveling, to the apps I use for music royalty claiming.

Vibe with us!

We just updated our team’s Spotify playlist for December.

Check out what we have been bumping!

That’s it for this week, I appreciate you!
