Young Sherlock + Bringing Clarity and Life to Your Mixes

The Rareform Rundown #93
Hello Friends,
Nathan here. I know the holiday season can get pretty busy, but I hope things have been going well on your end. I wanted to share a few recent things, some thoughts around what’s been happening with Spotify and catalog scraping, along with a practical look at simplifying your mixing process by making more intentional choices.
Let’s get on with it!

New projects + music we are looking for
PROJECTS
Really fun remixing The Spencer Davis Group’s I’m A Man, a remix I worked on with Darby Phillips, featured in the Young Sherlock Season 1 trailer!
Excited to announce that our sound design elements were featured in the campaign for Mercy.
Hyped to share another spot for Marty Supreme featuring our remix of A$AP Ferg’s New Level!

Spotify recently confirmed it disabled several user accounts after identifying unauthorized scraping activity connected to its music catalog. The activity was linked to Anna’s Archive, a piracy activist group that stated it collected both audio files and metadata from the platform.
While Spotify did not share extensive details, the group’s own disclosures point to the scale of the data involved and how widely streaming platforms are being monitored and accessed. Situations like this sit at the intersection of technology, rights management, and platform security, areas the music industry continues to navigate in real time.
Read our blog for a full breakdown of what was reportedly collected, how Spotify responded, and why this development matters for the industry.

A lot of mixing issues don’t come from bad gear or a lack of plugins. They usually come from trying to do too much at once. I’ve been there, stacking plugins, tweaking endlessly, and still feeling like the mix isn’t landing.
A polished mix isn’t about piling on processing or turning every knob until something works. It’s about making intentional choices. Too often, everything gets boosted, layers start stacking up, and the focus gets lost. The most important question often gets skipped: what is this track actually about, and what needs to lead?
If your mixes feel muddy, harsh, or cluttered, it’s usually not the tools holding you back. It’s how those tools are being used. A few small adjustments can go a long way toward creating clarity and impact without overthinking it.

Much love, friends. Hope you had a really good holiday!
